You want to know: can they come to us, do we own the images, how fast do we get them, and how much does it cost? Here are the answers.
I get a version of this question in about a third of my enquiries. Someone lands on the services page, sees four options, and sends a message that starts with "I'm not sure which service I need, but here's what I'm after…" That's a fine way to start. But here's a faster way to figure it out.
This question comes up in almost every consultation I run. Someone books a portrait session, we start talking about locations, and at some point they ask: "Should we do this in a studio or outside?" The answer is almost always "it depends." But that's not helpful on its own, so here's what it actually depends on.
Personal branding photography has become its own category in the last few years, especially in Stockholm. Every photographer's website now has a "personal branding" page. Some charge 1,500 SEK. Others charge 65,000 SEK. The service descriptions sound completely different, and if you're a founder, freelancer, or consultant trying to figure out what you actually need, the market is confusing on purpose. I'm going to break down what personal branding photography actually is, what it includes at different price points, and help you figure out how much of it you need. Most people hiring an event photographer do it once or twice a year. They google, scroll through a few portfolios, pick whoever answers fastest, and hope for the best. Sometimes that works. Sometimes you end up with a folder of blurry mingle photos and a photographer who left before the speeches. I've been on the other side of this for over a decade, shooting everything from corporate launches and TV show premieres to Gatsby-themed parties and burlesque New Year's events. Here's what I wish every client knew before they started looking.
About half the enquiries I get start with "I need a portrait" when the person actually wants a headshot. The other half say "I need a headshot" when what they really need is a portrait. Nobody gets this wrong because they're stupid. They get it wrong because the photography industry uses both terms loosely and never explains the difference. This is the question everybody googles but nobody wants to answer publicly. Most photographer websites in Stockholm either hide their prices behind a "contact for quote" button or give you a range so wide it's useless. I'm going to be specific. I get asked this before almost every booking. It's usually the last message before we confirm the session, somewhere between "sounds great, let's do it" and "wait, what do I wear?"
